BioPassword offers strong authentication for web-based applications with support for Linux

More than half of IT decision makers (58 percent) now use open source software for mission-critical applications, according to a recent report from Forrester. As more organisations in financial services, insurance, energy, government, and digital rights management adopt Linux for their environments, BioPassword offers strong authentication for web-based applications while integrating easily into large-scale web environments.

BioPassword Inc. has announced BioPassword® Internet Edition 2.1 with support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. In addition to Citrix and Windows Active Directory, Internet Edition is now compatible with Linux-based platforms to provide an added layer of security to support the growing need for authentication solutions in open source enterprise environments.

Internet Edition 2.1 provides easy-to-use and cost-effective multi-factor authentication solution for online users by analysing a combination of standard login credentials (userID and password), keystroke biometrics (unique typing rhythm) and knowledge-based authentication (user selected questions and answers).

Product features include:

Multiple authentication factors – An additional layer of knowledge-based authentication mitigates the chance of false rejects at even the most stringent security levels.

Fraud monitoring integration – Administrators can use ‘template scoring’ alone or in conjunction with other profiling characteristics to monitor the authentication patterns of groups or individuals, and apply internal business rules that challenge suspicious users or limit data or access.

Enrolment options – Enrolment can be immediate or occur gradually over normal logons for phased deployments.

User transparency – Adobe Flash plug-in enables cross platform support for an integrated Internet authentication solution using standard browsers.

Software development kit – Includes guidance and a sample application for integrating the BioPassword Web Service to easily implement BioPassword Internet Edition with any web application.

Adaptive learning – BioPassword Internet Edition examines each users unique typing rhythm and continually refines authentication accuracy thereby strengthening their biometric template over time.

Privacy protection – Because only keystroke ‘timings’ are captured, not keystrokes or passwords, attacks using phishing, pharming or keystroke loggers are deterred.

Renewable – Unlike physical-based biometrics, keystroke biometrics can be easily changed if credentials are compromised by simply establishing a new password.

FFIEC compliance – FFIEC guidelines include behavioural and keystroke biometrics as an authentication technique that complies with its two-factor authentication requirements.
